I ran down the hall and found my sister standing in the doorway to the kitchen.
“Lori,” I said, as I wrapped my arms around her and held her tight against my chest, “Honey, what happened?”
“A-a knife went flying at the wall,” she said, terror written all over her face.
I looked at Josh for a moment—he had his arm around Lori.
“Can you check?” I asked him.

“Amy,” he whispered, pain lacing his voice.
“What?” I asked, fear brewing in the pit of my stomach.
There’s…scratches all over your back,” pain and a

“Ames,” someone said softly, “Ames, wake up,”
I blinked a few times against the blinding sunlight. My eyes focused and I saw Josh sitting next to me with a mug of coffee in his hand.
“Morning,” I said, a smile tugging at my lips. I sat up.
He placed his coffee on the nightstand, and leaned over and softly kissed me. I ran my fingers through his soft, rumpled hair as he caressed my cheek. I sighed as we broke apart. This is how it was supposed to be. We were supposed to wake up and kiss, and make coffee and just be together…we weren’t supposed to be waking up screaming every few hours throug
